(SIXTH EDITION)

AUTHOR: GERALD COREY, MARIANNE SCHNEIDER COREY, PATRICK

CALLANAN

In this book, its discovered that many off the issues relevent to beginning professionals come back later and take on different meanings at various stages of professional development. Therefore, this book will be useful both to experienced employers and to students about to board on their professional careers. The authors are also tried to avoid the trap of dispensing prescription or providing simple solution to complex problems. The purpose of this book is to give us the basis for fomulatingour own ethical guidelines within the broad limits of professional codes and divergent theoretical positions.

When read this book, i realized that the author have certain biases and viewpoints about ethical behaviour. They try to keep their viewpoints open to revision. They state their position on issues not to sway us to adopt our view but to challenge us to devise our own position. In the end, our resposible for our own ethical practice. However, we are not free to choose any set of ethical views because it “ feels right”

The various mental health professions have developed codes of ethics that are binding on their members. As a professional, we are expected to know the ethics code of our specialty and be aware of the consequences of practicing in ways that are not sanctioned by the organization. In addition, responsible practice requires that we informed, sound and essential that we demonstrate a willingness to consult with collegue, to keep us up to date through reading and continuing education, and to continually examine our behaviour.

Codes of ethics provide general standards, but these guidelines are not sufficiently explicit to deal with every situation. It is often difficult to interpretethics codes, and opinions differ over how to apply them in specific cases. Consequently, in our professional work, we will retain a significant degree of freedom and will encounter many situation that demand the exercise of sound judgment to further the best interests of your clients.

When read this book, be prepared to reexamine many of the isuues discussed throughout our professinal life. Even if we resolve some of these issues at the initual stage of our development as counselor, these topics are likely to take on new dimension as we gain experience. Minor question may become major concerns as we progress in our profession. Many students burden themselves with expectation that they should resolve all possible issues before they begin to practice. However, the definition and refinement of such concerns is an ongoing evolutionary process that requires an open and self-critical attitude. The goal of author in this book is to give us a flexible framework and a direction for working through ethical dilemmas. Our challenge is to find our own answer to the question raise in the books.
